Donating Clothes To The Less Fortunate Blog 13

This blog will be the last blog about my 20% project and I will be reflecting about my work on my project throughout the school year. I should probably first start by saying that in the beginning of the school year when the project was assigned, I was worried because I wasn't sure on what to do it. Now In present day, I feel good because I thought I did good, not great, but good on my project. Some things that I thought In my opinion I did good was that I was somewhat prepared for my presentation and I actually helped make an impact on somebody's life. No offense, but most of my peers weren't prepared and their projects were not specific on how they actually helped someone's life. I feel good about myself because the day before my presentation, I was up til midnight preparing on my presentation. My hard work paid off and my presentation was one of the best in the class. Some things that I could have done better was that I should have had the Information about my presentation more efficiently giving to the class. I mean that I shouldn't have paused for long periods of time because I confused myself and the class, but luckily I recovered. I also regret not adding more slides on my presentation. I had a total of 8 slides with info and pictures, but still missed a couple of things. I wanted to add a slide with a picture and a quote about donating and I also wanted to add 2 slides saying what I hadn't done but wish I did and also a deep concluding slide that would really get to the audience that would listen. I wish I should have either stayed up later on the day before my presentation or started working on it earlier because even though I thought my presentation was O.K, I thought I missed a couple of things I wanted to add. If I could go back In time to the day the 20% project was assigned and give my past self the advice to not procrastinate and prepare to be a good public speaker. Regardless, all in all I was satisfied with my project. My 2 objectives were to first of course to donate clothes and make people's lifes better and to show others how easy it is make people's lifes better. I think I completed my objectives.

Week 11

This week I've been thinking of buying new shorts and giving away old ones to people who don't have shorts. Here in California, the weather has been scorching! This entire week, we've been having an average of temperature higher than 95 degrees! Who wouldn't wear shorts in this kind of weather? I have previously bought 3 pairs of shorts from Ross and am planning to give away mostly all of the pairs that I have. I'll give away my basketball shorts, my soccer shorts and my swim trunks to people who don't have shorts and only wear jeans and sweatpants. Poor souls, I wouldn't want my worst enemy to endure this kind of heat in jeans or sweatpants. Right now, estimating, I believe I have at least 10 pairs of shorts I haven't worn in at least a year. I'm not donating shorts to feel good about myself but because I had an opportunity to donate them. I think I'll donate them to my friend who lives a block away from me. Poor kid, he brings jeans and sweaters on days of intense heats. I think he'll use these shorts because I predict this summer will be hotter than previous summers. We've been also having heat advisories in California warning people to drink water and not to stay In the heat to long.

Week 10

This week in exchange of checking my closet for shirts and pants, this week I'm checking for shoes. In a previous blog, i was also donating shoes, but all of my shoes were fitting me at the time, but what can i say my foot grew. Like I've said before, I personally think when buying shoes, you shouldn't get a shoe that fits you very well. I personally always get shoes that are a full size or half a size bigger than my feet so that those shoes will last me. I've been growing lately and I've been leaving size 7 and 8 sized shoes and been purchasing size 9 and 10 sized shoes. I been leaving pairs of shoes behind that are in great condition. My parents would always get mad at me because i would always be so cautious about my shoes; never wearing because i would think i would get them dirty. Before i knew it, i had only put on my new shoes 5 times and i had outgrown them. Right know there at home in my downstairs closet. If i recall, there are some Nike's Trail Blazers size 8, a pair of dark black Vans size 8, some Nike's 6.0 size 8 and a pair of white soccer cleats. There all in good condition and I'd hate for them to go to waste rotting in my closet. I'll clean them up and they'll be like new again and probably donate them to somebody who needs them.

Week 9

This past week was Easter weekend and my friends and family just ate a ton. We had to wake up early at around 6 o'clock am and the parks were already filled up! We were at the park most of the day and it was a lot of fun. So this week I didn't really donate like the ways I've done before. I helped my dad get all the chairs out of the garage and the grill from the backyard. Then we went to a rental store to rent some tables for all the guests. I also helped my mom with all the preparation of the food. I helped her with seasoning the meat and making the guacamole. This week I didn't really donate, unless donating also counted giving food to others then yes. If i couldn't donate this week, i decided to be a good host and donate my time to help make all the preparations for Easter. My family didn't bring all the food, my sister and my brother in law brought all the chips and the soda and all the utensils while my aunt and uncle brought even more meat. Again like I said we had a lot of food and a lot of fun. We did have a lot of extra food and we've been giving some to neighbors who unfortunately could not have an Easter. Donating comes in all sorts of ways not just clothes. Donating food is like giving people care. The people giving them the food obviously care for them.

Week 8

This week I took out all the pants from closet and started to try them on. I have a total of 14 pairs of pants and 12 pairs of pants fit me which means I'm giving away two pairs of pants. When my brothers pants don't fit them anymore I'm the one that receives them all. Once they don't fit me anymore, we separate them from the clothes that does fit me and give it away. One of the pairs of pants is a black pair of Levi's and the other pair is a dark blue pair of American Eagle's. These pairs of pants at least cost me $80 all together and someone is going to receive them for free. Donating not only makes the people who are receiving the clothes happy but also makes you feel good about yourself; it raises self morale. Donating clothes is way better than just keeping your closet filled with clothes that don't fit and are just going to collect dust. Clothes is expensive especially well know brands like Nike, Adidas, Puma, Vans, Tapout ,etc. Some families depend on the financial help of others to get by especially when parents have to support their children. I get it. My parents didn't necessarily have no problems with me. I would get sick as a child a lot and my parents would have to pay medical clinics and doctors and i was a growing child, i needed new clothes. It would be nice if people got help from others.

Week 2- Droughts

The drought situation in the Central part of California is a a dire situation. California's central valley is usually covered in lush green vegetation this time of the year but due to the state's worst drought in decades have reduced the landscape to a harsh wasteland. I believe currently that President Barrack Obama was to visit California to see the drought for himself. A parched California could push food prices up dramatically. California is the largest food producer in the United States which also is the largest food exporter in the world. The state water department has turned off the water to farmers with their irrigated land. It is predicted that within the next two to four months small rural communities with populations of 40,000 will run out of water completely. The true question is what we will do to help. First, you could save water. The California Department of Transportation is using more than 700 electronic highway signs to raise awareness of how the drought is really severe. The governor of California has proposed $687 million to help with the drought. Here's where the people, us, come into play. We can help solve this problem. We could donate money, or water to help with the drought. We can also help save water. Taking shorter showers, not washing clothes so often or even limit flushing the toilet would do us good.

Week 1- The New Year

It's a new year filled with whole new opportunities for us to succeed this year. Some of us have gotten off to a good start to this year, but to some people there is mostly no change. Unlike some places like California, It is really cold in the east and northern states. I live in California so I don't know how it feels to be cold. I think it's cold when it's 48 degrees out in the morning, but in states like Minnesota where it's like below 10 degrees. In these times of winter, it is important to give to others. If you have family of friends in far away places like in the eastern states of the United States where it is really cold, you should send some blankets or something to help them out during the winter. Like i said, i live in California and i don't know how it feels to be cold  so i know I'll send things to my uncle in North Carolina. If i lived in a place where snow and rain and cold winds were very common, i would like to receive blankets or clothes so then i know people are looking out for me who actually care for me. Family and friends are important of course. It's a new year and what a great way to start it then to give a call to your parents, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, cousin or friend that lives far away to check up on how they're doing.
